Privacy Policy

The short version: Your quiz answers and your result are computed on your iPhone and never leave it. There is no account and no server of ours. The free version shows advertising from Google, which loads only after you have given your consent, and Yorick Pro removes it.

1. Who we are

Yorick: Death Clock & Lifespan ("Yorick", "the app") is an iOS application published by Levin Schwab. This policy describes how the app handles information, what stays on your device, and what leaves it.

2. Data we collect

We collect no data about you ourselves. There is no account and no server of ours behind the app. The advertising in the free version is a separate matter and is described in section 4. Specifically:

3. On-device processing

All calculations, from baseline mortality out of the SSA life tables through country adjustments from UN data to lifestyle effect sizes from the cited studies, are performed locally on your device using data bundled inside the app. Deleting the app deletes everything.

4. Advertising in the free version

The free version of Yorick shows advertising. It appears as a banner pinned below the content of the main result screen, and as one full screen advert after you close the sources and methodology sheet on that screen. The full screen advert is held back until your second session with the app and appears at most once every three minutes. Yorick Pro removes the advertising entirely.

The adverts are delivered by the Google Mobile Ads SDK. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, for users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and Google LLC elsewhere. To fill an advert slot, Google receives technical data from the device such as an IP address, device and operating system characteristics and, if you allow it, an advertising identifier.

Data typeProcessed by the appReaches a third party
Quiz answers, life-expectancy estimate, date, settings Written to your device only No. It is never passed to the advertising kit or to anyone else
Advertising identifier (IDFA) Only if you allow it in the App Tracking Transparency prompt Google, for advertising, and only with your permission
Technical request data for an advert Sent by Google's kit when an advert is loaded Google, on the basis of your consent
Contact details, location, purchase history No No

Your consent comes first. Before the advertising kit is started at all, the app shows Google's User Messaging Platform consent form, and iOS then asks its own App Tracking Transparency question. Only after that does any advert load. The legal basis is your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, and you may withdraw it at any time with effect for the future: open Settings inside the app and choose Ad privacy options. That entry appears whenever Google's consent form provides privacy options for your region. Buying Yorick Pro removes the advertising altogether.

Google's own processing is described at policies.google.com/privacy and, for advertising specifically, at business.safety.google/privacy. Beyond Google's advertising kit and its consent form we use no analytics service, no attribution SDK, and no crash reporting service of our own.

5. Purchases

The optional one-time purchase "Yorick Pro", product identifier com.lawoflarge.yorick.pro, is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your name, payment details, or any personal information from a purchase. Purchase records and restoration are handled by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy.

6. Children

Yorick is not directed at children. It has no sign-up and no account, and the answers anyone enters stay on that person's own device. Where the free version shows advertising, it does so only after the consent step described in section 4, and buying Yorick Pro removes it.

7. Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA grant rights over personal data that has been collected about you. Since we hold no personal data of yours on any server of ours, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf. All of your quiz data lives on your device, under your control, and deleting the app deletes it.

For the data that Google's advertising kit processes with your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time by the route described in section 4, which stops personalised advertising for the future. Rights against Google as the recipient are exercised through Google, whose privacy policy explains how.

8. Measurement on this website

This website uses Vercel Web Analytics. It is cookieless: it sets no identifier, it stores nothing on your device, and it builds no profile. What is counted is a page view and a click on an App Store button, together with the position of that button on the page and the path of the page you were on.

The provider is Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Avenue #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA, whose privacy policy is at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy. Nothing is evaluated per person and nothing is passed on to third parties. This measurement concerns the website only and is not part of the app.

9. Changes to this policy

If we ever change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and the "Last updated" date above before any change takes effect.
