1. Agreement
By downloading or using Yorick: Death Clock & Lifespan ("Yorick", "the app"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the app. The app is published by Levin Schwab ("we", "us").
2. License
Use of the app is licensed under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA). These Terms supplement that EULA; where they conflict, the Apple EULA governs your relationship with Apple, and these Terms govern your relationship with us.
3. Educational and entertainment purpose
Yorick provides statistical estimates for educational, motivational, and entertainment purposes only. Life-expectancy figures and "death dates" are population-level averages derived from public mortality data and published research applied to your answers. They are not predictions of any individual's lifespan and must not be relied upon as such.
Yorick is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and is not a medical device. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making health decisions.
4. Purchases
"Yorick Pro" is an optional one-time (non-consumable) in-app purchase processed by Apple. Pricing is shown in the App Store before purchase. There is no subscription and no recurring charge. Refunds are handled exclusively by Apple under App Store policies; you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the app, attempt to reverse-engineer it except where the law permits, or use its output to harass, distress, or mislead others. The app is intended for users aged 13 and over; the subject matter (mortality statistics) may not be suitable for everyone.
6. Intellectual property
The app, its design, text, and computational models are our property or used under license. Cited studies and public datasets (SSA life tables, UN data) remain the property of their respective publishers and are referenced for transparency.
7. Disclaimer of warranties & limitation of liability
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of estimates. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app — including any decisions you make based on its estimates. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for intent or gross negligence.
8. Changes
We may update the app and these Terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
